About Us
The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience is a worldwide network of over 300 “Sites of Conscience” – historic sites, museums and memory initiatives – in more than 65 countries that activate the power of places of memory to engage the public with a deeper understanding of the past and inspire action to shape a just future. The Coalition supports its members in many ways, including providing direct funding for civic engagement programs; introducing members to a global network of similarly minded sites, helping them establish best practices and new partnerships; organizing leadership and program development opportunities; offering dialogue training; and conducting strategic advocacy for individual members and the Sites of Conscience movement as a whole.
Across Asia and the Pacific, democracies are plagued by violence and instability related to religious extremism and ethnic tensions. Sites of Conscience provide safe spaces for our members to remember the past and to talk about how it impacts their present contexts. Specifically, the Asia and the Pacific Regional Network brings together ‘sites’ working through conflict and peace to promote ethnic and religious pluralism and democracy, especially among young people. Asian and Pacific Sites of Conscience opens-up spaces for dialogue on human rights and democracy to inspire young people to become actively engaged in promoting those values.
